چکیده
Because of its complex clumpy wind, prominent cyclotron resonant scattering features, intrinsic variability, and convenient physical parameters (close distance, high inclination, small orbital separation), which facilitate the observation analysis system, Vela X-1 is one key systems for understanding accretion processes in high-mass X-ray binaries on all scales. We revisit with two new observations taken NuSTAR at phases ∼0.68–0.78 ∼0.36–0.52, show a plethora variability allow us to study geometry stellar wind properties system. follow evolution spectral down pulse period timescale using partially covered power law continuum Fermi-Dirac cutoff model local absorption. are able confirm anti-correlations between photon index luminosity and, low fluxes, folding energy luminosity, implying change Comptonising plasma. were not previously seen correlation line source overall observation, but we observed drop following strong flare. see absorption within (for ∼0.36–0.52 phases) that can be explained by presence large-scale structure, such as photoionisation wakes our variable sight through this structure.

متن کاملVariation in Emission and Absorption Lines and Continuum Flux by Orbital Phase in Vela X - 1
High resolution spectral studies were undertaken at orbital phases (φ) 0, 0.25 and 0.5 on the high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) Vela X-1 using archival Chandra data. We present (a) the first detailed analysis of the multiple strong narrow emission lines present in φ 0.5 (b) an analysis of the absorption of the continuum in φ 0.5, and (c) the first detection of narrow emission and absorption lines i...
متن کاملDiscovery of slow X-ray pulsations in the high-mass X-ray binary 4U2206+54
Context. The source 4U 2206+54 is one of the most enigmatic high-mass X-ray binaries. In spite of intensive searches, X-ray pulsations have not been detected in the time range 10−3–103 s. A cyclotron line at ∼30 keV has been suggested by various authors but never detected with significance. The stellar wind of the optical companion is abnormally slow. The orbital period, initially reported to b...
متن کاملSimultaneous radio and X-ray observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1
We present the results of two simultaneous X-ray/radio observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1, performed in July/ August 1999 with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and the Very Large Array. In X-rays the source was observed in two distinct spectral states; a soft state, which had a corresponding 6 cm flux density of ∼0.25 mJy, and a hard state, which was much brighter at 1.3–7.2 mJy. ...
متن کاملHigh Mass X-ray Binary Modeling: The Magellanic Cloud Populations
We construct models for the population of high mass X-ray binaries (HMXRBs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). In particular , we investigate the eeect which the lower stellar metallicities of the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) has on the evolution and properties of HMXRBs. From the observed properties of the relatively small number of identiied HMXRBs in the MCs, it...
